NGC Certified Hun Coin of Nezak Drachm 6th Century AD. In circa AD 370, the Huns appeared in Europe, seemingly out of the blue. The nomadic tribes from the steppes of Central Asia surged westward, conquering territory, slaughtering those who came in their path, and looking for all the world like the world-destroyers of ancient prophesy. The "Gog and Magog" in the Hebrew Bible was believed to refer to the Goths and the Huns, who combined to end the Western Roman Empire and with it, the period of late antiquity.
The Huns were the beginning of the Middle Ages. Attila the Hun, born in 403, reigned from 434 until his death in 453-the peak of Hunnic power. After his death, the Huns declined, although they remained active in Central Asia for centuries. Because of their demonization by contemporary historians, as well as their fierceness in battle, Huns are still regarded as fearsome today. This Hunnic drachm was struck by the Nezak Kings from 480-560.
